The Biomolecular Interactions group studies interactions between biomolecules (DNA, RNA, proteins) using high-throughput methods and develops novel computational approaches to reconstruct structures of molecular complexes from sparse data. To this end we develop algorithms for the automated analysis of cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) data (Kramer et al., 2014). These large-scale analyses permit the discovery of novel interactions in vivo on a genome/proteome-wide scale and can thus reveal novel pathways for signaling and regulation. Cross-linking information can also be used as sparse structural information and enable the prediction of the structure of large molecular complexes not accessible by any other technique via constraint-based molecular docking (Hopf et al., 2015).
