Mass Spectrometry

The Mass Spectrometry facility was set up in Department 2 (Biochemistry) to provide the institute with the knowledge and the tools for bioanalytical mass spectrometry. In this framework we will offer the identification of unknown proteins after proteolytic digestions, the identification of post-translational modification (PTMs), and the mass determination of complete proteins or other molecules. The facility is equipped with a highly sensitive Bruker HCTultra ion trap that is coupled to a nano liquid chromatography system, allowing the analysis of complex sample mixtures consisting of several hundred analytes such as organelles and large protein complexes. This setting is complemented by an ultra high resolution quadrupole time-of-flight instrument for the analysis of molecules with high molecular weight like intact proteins.
