An Affymetrix GeneChip Instrument was set up in Department 6 (Molecular Biology) to provide the institute with a convenient and reproducible platform for expression profiling and ultra-high throughput SNP genotyping. Since 2003, on average 300 arrays per year have been hybridized by institute members (20% Department 3, 80% Department 6), and 100 arrays by outside users. Experiments are performed by individual members of the different departments or by collaborators from other institutions, under supervision of Markus Schmid. We also provide guidance for experiment design and analysis. The instrument has been upgraded twice, allowing analysis of the most recent versions of Affymetrix arrays (5 µm resolution).
